This video was the last one taken of our Täplä (translates to Speck) who died. Täplä was brutally killed by a our recently purchased wild (pet store) finch on 17th April 2008. They were getting along decently for a week or so – until the morning of 17th April when they were seen quarreling. Later that day we found her in the corner where she apparently had tried to find shelter from the attacker. There were no damage on the wild bird, so she probably did not fight back. This finch was particulary fond of grooming our fingers and was very shy and jumpy, but let us pet her. She loved to peck the metal part of our oven to make it do a sound and taught our other hand fed girl to do that sound. She loved everything dotty. The best thing about her was the way she stood with her toes pointing inwards that made her look very cute… I’m heartbroken above everything because she wasn’t just a pet store bird but one we raised ourselves from since she was just a few days old.
I’d like to advise finch owners to be more careful than we were. Before the nutcase bird came along, Täplä had a pet store bird and a handfed bird as roommates, so we had no reason to fear for her life. Unfortunately we learned through tears and sorrow.
